Birth Story!

Current Mood: Esctatic emoticon Esctatic

Around 2:30am on December 11th, I woke up as usual to go pee Tuesday, and felt “wet” as if I were leaking something. So, as they say to do online, feel it and do a sniff test. If you smell nothing, it’s most likely amniotic fluid. So, I smelt nothing, but thought, well I am kinda hot, maybe I’m just really sweaty. So, went back to bed. Got up at 10:30ish I think, and again, felt all wet. Sat up on the bed and when I got up, I left a puddle behind. So, after pondering if I should go in or not, we finally decided to go in and see, which is when you all got my first post.

Got there, and they stuck the q-tip thingy in to test to see if it had broke, yep. It turned black, so yay for me, I’m admitted! The dr wanted me to walk around and see if I could go on my own, and at this point I was 2cms dilated, and 50% effaced. So, I walked around, drank lots of liquids, got annoyed by Bruce who insisted on playing with the buttons on my bed and making me laugh even though it hurt lol.

8pm rolls around, and I’m sitting at 3cms, and still half way effaced. Dr tells the nurse to leave me till 9pm, at which point they’ll start me on Pitocin. Ohhhh, lucky me I thought lol.

After that, it actually went rather quickly. 9:20pm the drip was started. By about 10:30 or so I had gone to about 5cms, and the dr ordered a shot of Demerol, to help for pain and to help the dilation go a bit faster. By 11, the contractions were coming about 5 mins apart, and getting stronger each time. By about 11:45pm, I told Bruce I think this baby will be here by about 12:30. The contractions had started coming 2 minutes apart, and getting even stronger. I was offered the mask, but didn’t take it. While the contractions were stronger, I was able (probably through the help of the Demerol) to tolerate them. Sometime after 12, I was 8cms, and still no real need to push, but she called the dr in. Close to 12:30, I was in tears cause of the pain, and once the dr got there, that was it, the contractions seemed to take off and there was no need/time for the mask, it was time to get this baby out!

I think I pushed for 5 minutes, and only about 4 really big pushes and a couple small ones and out the baby came!

So, in reality, I was only in real labor for about 4 hours, since nothing really started till 9pm when I got the drip. I had a few contractions off and on till then, but nothing to really say “THIS IS IT” over.

Now. Isn’t there something else I need to post. Oh yes. What did I have?

Am I a member of Team Blue or Team Pink?

Welllllllllllllll…………….

I”M A MEMBER OF TEAM PINK!!!!

We had our girl!! As soon as she came out, Bruce sorta knew, but didn’t wanna say anything in case he was wrong. They had immediately took her to the warming bed, and they hadn’t said anything. The look on his face said “IT”S A GIRL” and I had to ask him, “What is it?” Then I heard the dr say “Congrats, it’s a girl!” Well, that was it. I started crying and smiling, and sorta laughing, but more so crying. I still can’t believe it! The whole thing was just a blur, but I think one of the best things was to see the look on Bruce’s face when she came out. I may not have known right away, but the look on his face, and how his eyes had changed is something I’ll definately NEVER forget.

Well I’ve definately slacked on adding stuff in here haven’t I? Well, the last weeks of my pregnancy went well. All dr’s appointments went good and the baby and I were both doing well. At week 39’s appointment, I had asked the dr about getting induced, and he said I would have to wait till the next week. Well, the next week came and I ended up going into the hospital to get checked out, because I thought my water had broke, but only with a slow leak. Turns out, that’s what it was! I’ll post the birth story in a seperate post though. I was thinking on digging out posts off the forums about my last dr’s appts, but not sure if I will, seems kinda funny posting stuff like that now lol.

Week 35!

Current Mood: Alarmed emoticon Alarmed

Well, a standard pregnancy is about 40 weeks, so therefore, I technically have only 5 weeks to go, as of today. But, once this week starts getting on into the week, it’ll actually be 4 weeks, and some odd days. It seems like, now that November is here, I can go into labour at ANY time, even though it’s still a bit too early. The days seem to be going by faster, and really, while at one point I DID want them to go faster, I really don’t, lol. This baby is torturing me, too. Now it’s gotten into giving me these really quick, really strong kicks in the ribs and they make me kinda jump every time. It’s almost as if the baby kicked me to make me move like that. It’s weird to explain, but I’ll tell ya, it certainly is NOT comfortable. I’m also feeling more of those stupid “fake” contractions, and seems like there’s alot more pressure happening. Sometimes I stand up, and it’s like, uhhh, is there a baby coming out or what? LOL. Certainly not funny, but that’s how it feels. Only a matter of time before this little one is born, and I’m certainly feeling antsy/anxious/nervous too!

Congratulations! You’re now carrying nearly 6 lbs of baby not counting their amniotic fluid, the umbilical cord, or the placenta itself. We’re impressed because that’s a LOT of work non-stop. Are you feeling proud of yourself yet? Well, get to it—you’ve done an amazing job! At this point, your little grower is almost busting out of the womb size-wise, which make their restricted attempts to move much challenging. Of course, your stubborn little sucker is still trying to move around as if they weren’t in a cramped space. And the accumulationg baby fat deposits are starting to level off so your little butter ball will be padded and warm when they head out of their super snug little home.

Week 34.

Current Mood: Sickly emoticon Sickly

Wow, seems that as time gets closer, I become more forgetful. I forgot to add this in for last week, oops. Well, last week was one of those super hormornal weeks for me, where I got cranky at anything and everything, then get really upset later on cause I felt like I was nothing but mean, and totally incapable of being a good mom, wife, or person altogether. I know all this will pass, or alot of it anyways, but it’s definately a horrible feeling to know that while being pregnant, every little thing can set you off.

I also got sick on Thursday, which carried on into the weekend, got the latest case of the flu bug, and THAT was NOT fun! I’m still kinda tired and worn out, but otherwise I think I’m fine.

Here’s the little blurby thing from last week:

Fetal development in pregnancy week 34:

Your amazing baby is on the move! They’ve been riding fairly high in your stretched-out womb till now (while kindly compressing your poor internal organs), but now they’re planning on making the big move to your pelvis this week. If you haven’t noticed it already, you’ll be feeling the weight shift that signals that your baby is most likely out of breech position, with their head now resting on your pubic bone. In liver news: although not quite fully formed, your little miracle’s liver is now capable of processing a certain amount of waste. In general, most of your child’s prenatal physical development is pretty much up to snuff and ready for the outside world. Naturally, further weight gain is expected—so you’re still not at maximum capacity despite probably feeling like you definitely are maxed out.

33 Week Dr’s Appt.

Current Mood: Alarmed emoticon Alarmed

Meant to post this sooner, but some stuff came up, so I had to deal with all that first “grumbles”

Anyways, all is well. Babies heartbeat was ranging from 148-155, but he had a hard time zeroing in on it (which is normal. This baby IS stubborn after all lol), instead, he got a nice hefty kick before he was able to get locked on lol. BP, pee and all that was good, too.

He felt around in my belly, and asked where the kicks could be felt, I said, i feel them all over, but I think the baby is head down because I can feel the hiccups down below. So far everything seemed to be good there, too .

Also, I’m measuring a week or so ahead. I’m 33 weeks, and measuring in at 34 weeks, and from looking at my chart when the nurse was weighing me etc, it seems I’ve been ahead for a while, at least I was last month anyways lol.

OH, and my weight? Well, I’m no longer in the “keep losing group”. In 4 weeks I gained 8 1/2 lbs!! I’m suspecting it’s all baby/amnio fluid though, because nothing else on me has gotten bigger LOL. I’m suspecting this baby is big/gonna be big though, and not sure I”m liking that lol. But, for now, I’m still down about 6 1/2 lbs, so I haven’t actually “gained” anything…. yet lol.

I’m now on every 2 weeks dr’s appts, and go back on Nov. 7th. Next appt I get to get one of the standard routine tests done, oh, I can hardly wait lol. That just means the start of all the poking and proding that’s going to start.

The funny thing though was, I asked if he was going to be around for deliveries in December, and his answer was “Oh yeah, I’ll be here. With bells on even!” . I said good, I don’t care much for the bells, but you better be here.

So, all in all, a good appt. I can’t believe the next one I’ll be at 35 weeks, then possibly, 1 more every 2 week appt, which will put me at 37, then every week till the baby is born. Kinda freaky . Time sure is going fast!

Week 33.

Current Mood: Bored emoticon Bored

Well, as usual, nothing different to report. I’m still tired, uncomfy, hot, sore, uncomfy, have my belly bouncing around all over, and did I happen to mention, uncomfy? lol. Time is flying, I can’t believe how fast it’s going. This baby will soon be here, yikes!

cramped in here?

Fetal development in pregnancy week 33:

For all the weight and bulk you’re lugging around these days, you’d think your little champ should weigh much more than a mere 5 lbs and measly 17 inches in height, but nope, that’s about the average size for a baby in its thirty-third week. In terms of appearances, they’re getting cuter and pudgier every minute as they pile on the baby fat for those adorable little wrist rolls and chubby toes. And as we’re sure you’ve already noticed they’re getting stronger with every passing day. Nowadays, it’s possible to observe a well-placed kick just by watching your belly—but you already knew that didn’t you? Although they’re getting stronger, your bigger-by-the-day baby is losing space to move around, so the actual rate of movement will drop off in the last few weeks, despite that powerful drop-kick they’ve been working on. Hey, did you know you’ll continue feeling their movements even during labor?

Week 32.

Current Mood: Happy emoticon Happy

Seems I forgot to add this in. Whoops!

Fetal development in pregnancy week 32:

fetus in eighth month

In the latest womb reports, your amazing baby has now developed sensitivity to temperature! This means you’ll probably get a swift kick if you put a hot pad on your ginormous belly. For the Elton John lovers out there– yes, baby’s got blue eyes. At this point, all babies do, although depending on their chromosomal disposition, this could easily change after birth (or even between now and labor), but for the time being, blue it is. Thanks to their recently matured lungs and a remarkably strong immune system, over 90% of babies born in their 32nd week, survive premature births. So it’s pretty much a done deal. Even if your little monkey’s planning on heading out early, their survival odds are in everyone’s favor. Time to celebrate (no, no, wait until after the birth to crack open the champagne!) We’re talking baby-showers and alcohol-free punch!

Week 31.

Current Mood: Cool emoticon Cool

So, here we are, in week 31. This week is proving to be brutal. First, there’s the never ending, what feels like a very full bladder. Yuck. So much for sleeping all night! Then, there’s the “muscle spasms” in my sides, that hurt like there’s no tomorrow. So not fun! And then there’s my bed. What I used to find comfy, now seems like it’s nothing but lumpy and always digging into me, making me uncomfy. Yet another reason to stay awake, tossing and turning. Plus, this baby seems to be growing at an alarming rate… or at least to me that’s how it seems. When I sit certain ways, it feels like my skin is being stretched beyond stretchyness, and boy, does that hurt and make for being VERY uncomfortable! ONLY 8 weeks, and 3 days or so to go. I’m hoping it’s a little bit sooner, maybe by say, a week. That way I have about 3 weeks to recover, rather than only 2 before christmas. Would be nice.

Fetal development in pregnancy week 31:

fetus in seventh month

Your not-so-little-one is just a bit closer to their birth weight and height at around 4 pounds and 17 inches. With each added layer of baby fat, your baby’s skin starts to look more and more like it will when they finally get to see the light of day. The heavy news: you can expect your miracle-gro muffin to gain about a half a pound of weight per week from now until about two weeks before birth. Great. That’s just what you needed. Even more weight to carry around!

Your baby’s still-developing immune system has gained substantial strength over the past few weeks getting them in full gear to face our disease-ridden world o’ wonders. Obviously, a large majority of your child’s immune strength will be derived from exposure to breast milk as well as the outside elements. Their cute little noggin’ (which could already be covered with luscious locks or just purty peach fuzz), is still soft because the skull bones have not yet fused together. As much as that sounds a little too vulnerable, their “skull softness” allows for a much smoother passage through the birth canal during labor—something both you and your little swimmer will appreciate when it’s finally time to “go!” Also, some babies will have that “soft spot” on their head for up to one year after birth.

30 Weeks!

Current Mood: Alarmed emoticon Alarmed

So, this week I’m now at the big 30 week mark, yikes! That means I have roughly, 8-10 weeks to go. I say 8 weeks, because anytime after 38 weeks, is the “safe” zone for babies to be safely born, and after your first couple, these little munckins can come at ANY time… or so they say lol. It could even be, 8-12 weeks, cause they sometimes let you go 2 weeks past due if you still haven’t had the baby by the 40th week. The only problem with going 2 weeks past my due date, is that it’ll bring me to Christmas Eve, and I don’t “really” want to be pushing out a baby at Christmas time. I think that while I’d be giving us a great gift, it would still sorta ruin Christmas. The kids would be excited that Santa’s coming, but yet, mommy is in the hospital, and can’t be with them. I would just feel bad, cause little kids shouldn’t have to wait for Christmas JUST because mom’s in having a baby lol. I’m sure though, if this baby decided to stay put a while longer, I could ask my dr to just induce me. I’d have to 1, have to travel on christmas eve to have a baby if my own dr wasn’t available, and 2, pull him away from his own family, as he also has a little boy named Christopher, who is the same age as mine.

We’re in the process of naming the baby. Have the girls name already, but have NO IDEA what to name a boy! Argh!! It’s VERY frustrating. Tomorrow we’re going to buy a new dresser for the baby, and in about 5 weeks, we’ll be cleaning out my room, re-organizing everything, and setting up the crib. We’ll also be sorting through baby clothing, and washing and folding all the wintery type things, along with other stuff, like blankets, face clothes, towels, etc. Then getting it all put into the new dresser. After that, it’s pretty much a waiting game.

poly!

Fetal development in pregnancy week 30:

The light is visible at the end of the tunnel! Your oversized self and amazing growing baby have finally reached the single digits (in terms of weeks till birth)! The fine lanugo hair that has been growing all over their little monkey-like body is going to start falling off this week in preparation for the big day. But don’t be shocked if they’re hairier than you’d anticipated, some babies keep their lanugo until after birth. Still, it’s not any cause to be concerned as it will fall off eventually. No surprises here: your little porker is getting even cuter with increasingly pudgy arms and legs this week thanks to the ever-growing layers of subcutaneous fat. In terms of numbers, your baby should be weighing in at around 3 pounds 12 ounces (or more!) and be nearly 16 inches long.

Dr’s Appt.

Current Mood: Happy emoticon Happy

Whoops, didn’t realize I never posted about my dr’s appt last week. Well, here’s how it went.

My blood pressure, pee were good. I managed to lose yet ANOTHER lb, which now brings me to 15lbs total lost this pregnancy, and absolutely nothing gained!

My belly was measuring right on where it should be, and as usual got the whole “baby is growing nicely” comment, lol. The baby’s heartbeat was 150-155 BPM, which is also really good.

I asked him though, what are the chances that this baby will be a big baby, since I’m a little concerned since my first 2 were big boys. Christopher was 9lbs, 2ozs, and Cameron was 9lbs, 5ozs. He said, well, generally, if you have had big babies, all other’s will be big as well. Uh oh, now I fear I’ll push out a bag of potatoes!! I just keep saying to myself “it’s ok, it’ll be a girl, and she won’t be that big” LOL. Wishful thinking maybe, but one can hope!

I also had to get my Rhogam shot. That’s because I have a negative type of blood (O-), and if you have negative type blood, if the blood from the baby happens to get into my system at any time, my body can fight back, and kill off the babies red blood cells, in turn, killing the baby. Don’t need that to happen!

So, all in all, everything is going well.
